WHO WE ARE

EarthCare Nigeria Limited is the largest commercial producer of organic fertilizer in West Africa using a mix of municipal solid waste as raw materials and applying a unique United States remedial technology which conforms to Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Our plant situated at Ikorodu, Lagos State at full operation, has the capacity to produce 200,000 metric tons of Grade “A” organic fertilizer per annum under the brand name CompostPLUS. The project is a joint-venture initiative of the United States Government between EarthCare Nigeria Limited and EarthCare Technologies, Inc. under the Gold Key Initiative of the Bill Clinton administration for the benefit of Nigeria. The take-off funding for the Ikorodu project was facilitated by the US government through US Sovereign Bank.

Federal & State Governments Endorsements

As an endorsement of the quality of CompostPLUS the Federal Ministry of Agriculture during the 2009 farming season, purchased 2,500 metric tons of CompostPLUS for distribution to all the Agric Development Programs (ADPs) in the 36 States of the Federation and Abuja FCT. Also, during the 2009 farming season, the Enugu State Government bought 1,000 metric tons for its farmers. Testimonies by farmers who have used CompostPLUS nationwide have been very impressive. We have also supplied 3,000 metric tons to Taraba State Government in response to demands by farmers in the State.

Marketing

To ensure that CompostPLUS is accessible to farmers all-year round, we have begun the process of creating marketing outlets through the appointment of Distributors spread across the six geo-political zones. We are also designing programs to reach out to rural farmers through farmers’ cooperative societies. Our corporate policy is to ensure that 30% of CompostPLUS produced is sold to rural women farmers.

Facts About CompostPLUS ™ Organic Fertilizer

All organic soil additives are not compost. The word "compost" is used by many people but remains today undefined in most countries. At this time, there is no comparable product to CompostPLUS sold in Nigeria. A farmer buys NPK chemical fertilizer hoping to feed his crop but in reality, all farmers know that a large amount of the N that they purchase is lost as ammonia to the air, dissolves in water where it washes from the field during a rain event or is carried deep in the soil towards the aquifer beyond the plant's root system. EarthCare has developed a method that duplicates the rejuvenation of the soil without the loss of planting time. Good compost contains a diverse set of organisms, a diverse set of food resources, and humus to provide good aggregate soil structure. Diversity will be maximized and will transfer that complexity of species and functional groups into the soil on which, or into which, the compost is placed. Compost ultimately improves plant health by supplying these things to the soil. That is why the addition of CompostPLUS helps keep plants healthy. More important than pleasing the eye and nose of the product user, a clean, safe and fully stabilized compost product is generated in the EarthCare process. As an added bonus CompostPLUS contains select microbes, one which has as its sole function to fix free nitrogen from the air to the root zone of the plants on a year round basis. A wide range of chelated micro nutrients are available for plant nutrition and simple sugars are present to promote further growth of good microbes in the soil. Also contained in CompostPLUS are select microbes that inhibit soil borne fungi and nematodes which destroy the root systems of plants. To repeat, not all decayed or broken down organic matter is compost. CompostPLUS is more correctly defined as biologically active humus. Humus acts as a site of nutrient absorption and exchange for plants in the soil. The surfaces of humus particles carry a negative electrical charge. Many of the plant nutrients, such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium and most tract minerals carry a positive electrical charge in the soil solution and are thereby attracted and adhere to the surface of the humus. Some of the plant nutrients are not positively charged, such as phosphorus, sulfur, and the form of nitrogen that is available to plants. Fortunately, a good supply of these nutrients becomes available to plants through biological transformations in CompostPLUS.
Again, there is nothing comparable in use today in Nigeria, organic or chemical to CompostPLUS.

Environmental Impact

EarthCare has successfully developed the most advanced composting technology known in the world today. EarthCare is a turn-key composting company. Our system is comprised of a specialized windrow composter and unique enzyme and microbial infusion blend specifically formulated to work together to accelerate the composting process and provide a superior end product. No other company has been capable of accelerating the composting process to the degree that EarthCare's system has been able to consistently achieve. Nor has any other company been able to produce such a high-quality compost so dependably. The technology developed by EarthCare is an environmentally acceptable method of handling virtually any biodegradable material in a waste stream. this method works for any organic source such as farm and animal waste as well as brush, lawn, and leaf clippings. Concerned with the problems facing individual communities and businesses , we make certain that each system is specifically designed to meet the needs of their particular waste management problem. Our unique system is designed to remove the waste problem without offensive odors. Composting supports all recycling efforts by turning municipal, industrial, and animal waste into a usable product reducing the amount of waste being deposited into landfills by approximately 85% (the remaining 15% being composed of Glass, plastic, and metal.) EarthCare's finished organic compost is environmentally safe. The finished compost meets or exceeds any existing standard required by the EPA as well as all Federal, State, County, or City agencies. It may be used without restriction, including use of food crops.
